Reported severe workplace injuries under Federal OSHA

Prepared 105,996 federal OSHA severe-injury reports for an interactive Tableau dashboard. A geographic-coverage flag prevents State Plan reporting gaps from being mistaken for lower injury counts.

Philosophy in analytics work

• Defining conceptsI establish what a measure includes and excludes before building it. I also check whether the available records capture the subject named in the report, since a familiar label can conceal a narrower or different measure.
• Identifying assumptionsMeasures inherit choices about how records are counted and compared. I find those choices in the source data and existing reporting logic, then make them explicit so they can be checked.
• Analyzing argumentsI follow the reasoning from a reported result to the conclusion drawn from it, then identify any additional evidence needed to support that conclusion.
• Reasoning with language and logicI examine field names and metric labels for differences in meaning that a shared word can hide. I write conclusions at the level of precision the data supports, particularly when a finding applies to only part of a population or period.
• Testing objectionsI look for records and cases that challenge an initial measure or interpretation. If a rule fails for a particular source, period, or category, I investigate the failure before treating the aggregate result as reliable.
• Considering alternativesI examine whether a change in a result reflects a change in activity, recording practices, or the measure itself. I keep the observed change separate from explanations for it until the evidence supports one.
